Equipment rules:
- A hockey stick, CSA approved helmet with face cage and gloves are required
- Shin pads and jock are recommended
- Goalies require full equipment
Game rules:
- A game will consist of three 12-minute periods with running time
- Games will be 5 on 5 plus goalies
- A team must have a minimum of 4 players to start a game unless both teams agree to play 3 on 3
- Changes will be made on the fly unless teams agree to stoppages for line changes. It is recommended that U10 implement 2-3 minute stoppages for line changes.
- When the ball is covered by the goaltender, the defending team gets possession of the ball behind their net. The other team must then give the team with the ball 10 feet of space to make a play. The team with possession is allowed 5 seconds to put the ball in play and goals scored directly off the restart will not count.
- If the ball goes out of play, possession goes to the opposing team at the spot near the boards where it exited. The defending team must give at least 5 feet of space. Goals scored directly off the restart will not count.
- A face off at center is required after a goal and the referees and scorekeepers must communicate and record goals and assists accurately.
- No icing or offsides.
- There will be no overtime or shootout for tie games in the regular season
- Ties in the playoffs will be followed by 5-minute 3 v 3 overtime then shootout
- One timeout per team is allowed per game
- There is absolutely no body checking allowed
- Each player can score a maximum of four goals per game in regulation time
- A 7 goal difference will result in a mercy rule taking into effect. No stats are counted after mercy rule.
- Minor penalties (2 minutes) will be called for usual infractions in hockey such as tripping, slashing, cross checking, interference, high sticking, roughing, unsportsmanlike conduct etc.
- Major infractions such as hitting from behind may result in a 5-minute penalty plus a game misconduct at the discretion of the referee
- Fighting will result in ejection from the game and possible suspension
- Abusive language and swearing will result in a penalty
- Racist and discriminatory slurs that fall within prohibited grounds in the Ontario Human Rights Code will result in a penalty, misconduct or suspension at the discretion of the league officials
Standings rules:
- Win = 2 points in the standings, Tie = 1 point and Loss = 0
- All 4 teams make the playoffs. First round will be 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3.
- Tie breaker is points, followed by wins, followed by head to head, then GF and GA.
Dress Code:
- Shorts below the knees for boys
- Loose fitting bottoms for girls
