The SMBHA was founded in 2004 by the late Saleh Hafejee, may Allah have mercy on him. It began from a deep love of hockey and a desire to make the sport accessible to every child in the Markham and Lawrence community, where affordable hockey options were limited.
The first season featured 60 boys aged 10 to 16 playing in the schoolyard of Cornell Public School. What started as a small community effort has grown into a thriving program. In 2025, we welcomed more than 300 boys and girls across seven divisions, all united by the same spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship, and faith that inspired its founding.
